Logan was the most complained about film of 2017 for a stupid bloody reason

Hugh Jackman"s ninth outing as Wolverine was the most complained about film of 2017 in cinemas in the UK.

Logan opened to critical acclaim last year and was lauded by fans of the X-Men franchise for its ne0-noir, gritty portrayal of Wolverine and was Jackman"s last outing as the mutant we all love to love.

Following the rip-roaring success of Deadpool, Fox gave the go-ahead to give the next wolverine outing an R-rating. This meant fans were finally going to get the Wolverine movie they"d always wanted. Violent and gritty, Logan was a valuable addition to the Marvel franchise, throwing around blood with almost as much reckless abandon as the word f*ck.

It was perhaps Jackman"s best stint as Wolverine and thankfully helped to wash away some of the absolute horror that was X Men Origins: Wolverine (yeah, remember that absolute disaster?).

Logan was the Wolverine film we"d all been waiting for; as Old Man Logan, Jackman finally got to play Wolverine the way we wanted to see him, broken and angry but with just enough heart to make him truly relatable.

The fans loved it, the critics loved it, it was a total success and has an overall 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, it turns out a lot of people thought Logan was far too violent and should have had an older age reading.

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) released their annual report today, and confirmed that Logan was the most complained about film of 2017. Twenty formal complaints were lodged about the movies violence in relations to its 15 age rating. Many said the film should instead have been rated 18 due to the

In its report, the BBFC said: “Members of the public who wrote in felt that the film’s violence was too strong for a 15 classification and would have been more appropriately placed at 18. However, the BBFC classification guidelines permit strong violence at 15, provided it does not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. While the violence in Logan is strong and frequently bloody, it is also rapidly edited with a focus on action rather than sadism. The film’s fantastical setting and super-powered central character further distances the violence from reality, allowing the issue to be acceptable at 15.”

Not entirely sure what people expected from a movie about a pissed-off old guy with Adamantium claws. Did they expect him not to use them? Honestly, if anything, it could have done with more violence really.

Hindi-language period-drama film, Padmaavat, received 10 complaints with concerns that it misrepresented a revered figure in India.

And thriller Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron attracted eight complaints regarding its “violence and to a lesser extent its sexual content and language”.
