Police: Woman says she was holding baby when boyfriend pushed her down stairs

A Knoxville man set to be arraigned next week is accused of pushing his girlfriend and baby down the stairs.

Fredlin Gaggley, 40, was allegedly arguing with his girlfriend when he began throwing around her personal items at a home on Mockingbird Drive Monday, according to court documents.

The incident report states officers responded to the home around 8:25 p.m. Monday after a domestic disturbance call. When they arrived, investigators said Gaggley"s girlfriend told them she was standing at the top of their stairs when she asked him to stop throwing her belongings around because it was scaring their one-year-old baby.

She told police that he replied "she needs to be scared" and then pushed her while she was holding the baby.

According to investigators, the girlfriend said she was able to keep herself from falling completely down the stairs by grabbing the railing. She said she tried to walk down the rest of the stairs when he grabbed a hamper full of clothes and threw it at her.

The report states the girlfriend tripped down the rest of the stairs when he threw the hamper at her, she fell, and the baby landed on her back. She then said as he passed them at the bottom of the stairs, he stepped on the baby"s chest with his left foot.

Officers said the girlfriend told them it did not appear that he intentionally stepped on the baby.

She told investigators that Gaggley said "I"m going to leave before I do something else stupid", and then he left.

The report says police also responded to the East Tennessee Children"s Hospital after the woman and her baby were taken there. Police said they observed a mark on the baby"s chest that appeared to be a shoe print and small scratch on her back.

Gaggley faces charges including domestic assault and child endangerment. An arraignment is set for May 17.
