Get serious on border protection

To the editor:

If our government is really serious about protecting our borders; here’s my take on keeping illegal drugs and criminals from crossing our borders.

First of all catch and release without punishment is stupid. Is the reward of getting caught crossing our borders worth the risk, yes? If people knew crossing our border illegally could get them shot on sight would the reward still be worth the risk, absolutely not? So what will it be an expensive Trump wall or bridges?

Wall first: For a much lower cost than a wall, two sixteen foot high chain link fences with razor wire on the top could be installed one hundred feet apart; like at a prison. Instead of towers with armed guards there would be machine gun torrents on high towers.

As with killer drones I believe a system could be created that would include cameras and motion detectors so to worn anyone that gets near the fence about getting shot. If they did get in the DMZ (dead man zone) that space between the two fences; they could possibly be killed by machine gun fire. The machine guns could be operated using the cameras and joy sticks just like a drone. If criminals tunnel under the fence they would be shot on sight by guards or a drone when they come out of their rat hole. Now that’s real serious punishment for criminals crossing our border illegally; is the reward still worth the risk, I don’t think so.

Now bridges: Bridges would be undocumented people coming legally through the border gates and having skills to work in our country with a work permit and a sponsor. If an employer, including President Trump, hires an undocumented foreign employee without a permit that employer would receive a ten thousand dollar fine per illegal employee and the person that turned the employer in would get half of the fine as a reward.

This whole idea would work BUT will never happen, WHY, because the first time a child gets shot accidentally all hell would break loose in the media. Even though every year there are hundreds dieing a slow horrible death in semi trailers and in the desert. Sad.

As for refuges looking for asylum, give them free transportation to our Canadian border, maybe they’ll take mothers with children; what’s happening here is shameful.
