Conservatism is not bigotry

I support Simi Valley City Council filing an amicus letter supporting the United States’ action against California State Sanctuary laws, for these reasons:

1. Safety. Simi is a relatively safe community. Harboring criminals will not keep our residents, whether legal or illegal, safe from criminal predators. Sanctuary laws protect criminals, encouraging them to remain in sanctuary communities.

2. This isn’t a “race” issue, it’s a safety issue. Too many Americans have been killed by illegal aliens. If the illegals weren’t in the country, those killed would still be alive, and their families wouldn’t be suffering.

3. Statistically speaking, it is a fact that sanctuary communities have higher crime rates, both property crimes (burglaries and auto break-ins) and physical crimes (murders, robberies, rapes) than neighboring communities that aren’t sanctuary communities.

4. The United States was founded on laws. Everyone in America is subject to the same laws (apparently with the exception of Hillary Clinton). Sacramento Democratic politicians pass stupid laws that don’t keep Simi Valley safe.

Liberals and SB 54 supporters will brand me a racist, but that’s just posturing.

Consider these facts: My wife and I have five children; all are adopted. Biologically, two of my sons are half-Hispanic; we joyously chose them to be part of our family.

My oldest daughter is married to a Ghanaian, a fabulous fellow, who is black. My daughter and son-in-law have been going through the visa application process for 18 months so he can enter America legally. Earlier this year my daughter returned from Ghana to have their baby at Simi Valley Hospital; a very good experience.

When we moved to Simi Valley 10 years ago, two of my kids had two friends whose families had moved away. These young men wanted to finish high school in Simi, so they lived with our family for two years, rent-free. All we required was that they follow our family rules. One young man was black; over the two years he grew 1 inch and gained 20 pounds.

These examples aren’t the behavior or attitude of a racist, but of a conservative Republican, proudly American.
